Saturday at the vet's
Nov. 10th, 2007 10:24 amOk. Things are better than I originally thought.
Wednesday night into Thursday, I thought that King was getting sick again--he was up, pacing, eating, wanting to go outside ( I assumed to scarf up dirt and upchuck). But I thought about it after I posted, and then again Thursday night into Friday, when even after getting the stomach meds, we still had the pacing, the wanting to go outside...
...the luring me out of bed by making off with my shoes, the picking up the empty food dish and wanting to play tag.
That was different.
Discussed matters with vet this morning. The upshot is that King is feeling better than he has in months, his energy is back up to normal King levels, and since all he does in the house when I'm gone is sleep, he's slept out by the time midnight-1am rolls around. So he wants to play.
He needs more activity.
Vet also recommended a different food. I asked if I should switch King away from Iams, and she heartily agreed. She said that Iams has gone downhill since it went into grocery stores--they had to cut costs somewhere, and they did that by cutting the quality of their protein sources. Any label that lists multiple carbohydrates as their primary ingredient isn't the best.
Well damn--King's been on the stuff since he was a pup. But he was always getting supplemental protein as well, so maybe that helped.
Anyway, I still had a bag of Eagle Pack that I was giving King as an extra added snack pre-tummy issues. Vet said she likes and recs Eagle Pack, and said to transition King over about 2 weeks, increasing the amount of new food every third day. I can let him run loose in the backyard again, too. I was worried that King might still grab dirt and mulch, and vet said that since he isn't trying to scarf down mouthfuls to clean out his stomach, it's fine. She said he'll probably always munch on the stuff occasionally, because with him it also functions as a worry mechanism, like his leg-licking.
In Mickey news, his teeth are in good shape--gum healed nicely--and he had his stitches out--incision healed nicely as well. Mickey is a good puppy.
King. Is not.
Situation Normal, IOW.
