No more snow has fallen since the Interesting Time that transpired last Wednesday into Thursday, which means we've had time to clear the roads and driveways. Some of the store parking lots are still a mess--I'd hate to be wearing nice indoor shoes and trying to pick through snow in order to get from parking lot to sidewalk. I pretty much stick to the clunky shoes during this time, namely waterproof hiking shoes and boots. I look like the last days of Grunge Nation, but at least my feet are warm and dry.

Eye doctor visit on Friday. Eyes haven't gotten worse--yea, because we're blind enough--so I don't need new glasses. I did mention that I didn't bother trying to wear my contacts anymore because I couldn't read with them, and given my issues (need for bifocals, astigmatism, the usual middle-aged eye stuff) , a simple pair of soft contacts isn't available to solve the problem. Doctor suggested two courses of action if I wanted to give contacts another try. 1) Wear what I have, but get reading glasses to go with. 2) Try monovision, which is a strange concept but apparently works for a lot of people. With monovision, you're fitted with two different contacts, one that adjusts for far sight and the other for near. The brain adjusts, and you're pretty much good to go. You can have issues if you do a lot of close work, perform a job where *sharp* distance vision and/or depth perception are important, or drive a lot at night. I don't do any of those things to any great extent--by close work, I think of things like small instrument repair and needlework and such--so I'm going to give it a try. If it doesn't work out, there are always reading glasses. I could get really funky ones and wear them around my neck on a leather and chainlink cord or something.

Not going gently into the good night, nope, nope, nope.

In other news, spent yesterday updating OS X and Java on the iBook, a feat that took *hours* since I still use dial-up. If anything drives me to hi-speed internet, it will be these damned OS updates. OS X has gone through at least 4 in the last 11 months, and with two systems to keep updated, it turns into a day's worth of downloading at a time.

The absolute last thing I need is hi-speed internet. I have enough to distract me.

ENDGAME progresses. Finished Ch 5 finally, and am writing a new Ch 6 with the non-Jani POV. Renamed the old Ch 6 as Ch 7, but it may even get pushed out to Ch 8 depending.
