Kaili Joy Gray over at Daily Kos collects the week's assaults against women's rights, courtesy of the GOP:

Boehner's equal rights bathroom may seem a silly and unimportant issue. But it represents a larger and more serious point: the fake concern for women's equality, even as Republicans attempt to pass further restrictions on women's rights. Republicans spent the better part of 2010 patting themselves on the back for the record number of Republican women running for political office, boasting of the new conservative feminist movement that was intended to persuade voters that the Republican Party supports equal rights for women.

But nothing could be further from the truth, and as Republicans have gained greater control of elected offices at the federal and state levels, we are witnessing the concerted effort to undo the very legislation intended to protect women's health, lives, and livelihood. Even as Republicans offer empty platitudes about equality and feminism, their agenda to legislate women into second-class citizenship has never been clearer.

So very true, and so very infuriating.

What I don't understand is why Republican women are so compliant. They can't all be married to CEOs. There aren't that many CEOs.

Any number of reasons. Some genuinely believe women should be subservient. Some think they're actually in charge, ruling from a "subservient" position. Some fear having to fend for themselves, want/expect to be taken care of, and don't care what they give up in the process. Then there are Susan's "Queen Bees," who like lording over other women. "Do as I say." Though likely not as they do, because *they* do as they please. Schlafley. Palin.

I think Republican women feel so secure in their privileges that they figure they won't lose them no matter what, but they don't want to pay taxes, either on their own or their husband's pay checks. And while there aren't that many CEOs, there are plenty of doctors and lawyers.

Let's say you take a woman with a naturally alpha-style personality, but raise her on a literal interpretation of the Bible. Or she's a successful women who doesn't want to pay taxes. Or she spent her life getting great grades in school by keeping teachers happy and now works for conservatives making lots of money keeping them happy. Contradictions galore.
