King's growth was benign! Something called a "nevus mole," a mole that became inflamed and went crazy. It makes sense. It did stay the same size for quite some time before it started growing.

To say I am relieved is to not say nearly enough. Visions of Mickey's last weeks danced in my head. King showed no sign that the growth bothered him and his eating & behavior were normal, while the Mickster was obviously sick. But still. So happy.

King's Lyme has stabilized as well, so as soon as vet's office gets the special Lyme vaccine, he will get it.

To celebrate, I am going to bake Ultimate Ginger Cookies. The pups can't eat them, true. But Pup Mom can, and she sure as hell needs something.

Update: Mischief managed. Or in my case, c00kies!!

I wound up with 16, just like the recipe said. Sizes are a little uneven, but I will endeavor to cope. I rolled them in Turbinado sugar rather than regular white, used dark brown sugar instead of light (recipe did call for dark brown), and used only 2 oz of crystallized ginger instead of 6 oz because I could only find the small spice bottles of the stuff and they were kinda expensive.

I had been making do with store-bought for a while. It was nice to have something homemade for a change.

I didn't have as much crystallized ginger as the recipe called for, but they still taste good.

They taste good, too. Rich. Spicy. Good with fresh coffee.

I'm so glad for King.

Why can't doggies have ginger cookies! I know from experience that most think them yummy.

They also contain cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. None of those can hurt dogs, can they?
I know King would probably chow down on a cookie. Gaby is a little fussier.

My dogs--and those of my friend who makes batches of ginger cookies every year--all LOVE the ginger cookies and will do (metaphorical) flips for them.

I think in moderation, the additional spices are just fine for dogs. (Nutmeg in great quantity is poisonous to humans and dogs.)

Very, very happy that King's mole was benign, and wishing I could have a cookie (you deserve them...I just happen to love ginger cookies and won't make them because they would disappear in minutes...)

These are different from others I've had. The sweetness from the dark brown sugar and molasses is really muted. It's not a very sweet cookie. Rich, even though the recipe called for oil instead of butter. And chewy. I always overbake cookies, so it was nice to make some that were chewy for a change.

I have to keep myself from eating too many at once. I will be making this recipe again.
