Watching "A Hard Day's Night."

I remember the huge arguments over which group was better, the Beatles or the Dave Clark Five. In 1964, this was an issue of great import.

Who won? ;-)

I'm amazed that you can remember conversations from when you were an infant.

Oh, there were no arguments amongst me and my friends - the Beatles were IT - but they didn't come to Omaha. The Dave Clark 5 did - and I have no trouble at all remembering standing in -7 degree (F) weather for two hours at the airport waiting for their plane to arrive. With about 200 other 13 year old idiots, LOL. Went to the concert, too. It seems so quaint now: they had folding chairs for us all to sit in. And we sat in them. The world was different then.

Dave Clark 5. What can I say?

I was actually 5 years old. Maybe 6. I remember a lot from that time.

As to who won? I think critics would give the nod to the 4 lads from Liverpool, but the DC5 have their champions.

Really? Why?

Which of their songs are your faves?

My first concert...I think it was The Grass Roots. Punta Gorda Florida, 1971, so I was 13. I went with my cousin. I don't recall it being particularly crazy. Loud, but not crazy.

My son has taken all of my Beatles VHS tapes (AHDN, Help!, Mag Mys Tour and Yellow Sub). He didn't like MMT, but loves AHDN. Unfortunately, the movie changed him. When he only knew their music, I thought I might be raising the next Paul McCartney. Now, I think I'm raising the next Wilfrid Brambell.

If he sees me reading in the evening, he'll proclaim, "Look at him sitting there with his
hooter scraping away at that book." If I tease his sister about her hair or height, I get, "Pauly. Don't mock the afflicted." All in a convincing brogue.

So it's an instigator you've been rearing there, then.

I didn't care for Help!, and haven't seen the other films. But I do like AHDN.

I'm not sure now. But back then, I thought the members of the band were cuter. And the music seemed to speak to me more. Or maybe I'm just a rebel and didn't want to go along with the whole Beatles' thing (ha ha).
