Earthquake

In northern Illinois, about 40 minutes ago. I'm hearing 4ish on the Richter scale. I didn't feel anything, but folks south and west of Chicago did.

Out to shovel snow. As much as I can get done in an hour, then time to get ready for work. Looks like the snow stopped--hope the roads are clear. Looks like we did get close to a foot of the stuff, if not a little more.

Here's a link to a story about the quake: http://tinyurl.com/ybt8s93

Okay an earthquake and a snowstorm on the same day? Just doesn't seem fair.

Good luck with shoveling!

It woke us up.

I shoveled the drive in an hour, a record made possible by the fact that 1) the 6 inches or so that fell overnight was fluffy and 2) the snow plow had yet to come through and dam the end of the drive. Ran inside, got ready for work, fed the pups. Heard the snow plow come through, and swore softly.

Started Kuro and pulled out at far as I could. Spent minutes I didn't have shoveling out just enough of the dam to get through. Roads were slippery in spots, but OK overall. made it to work in time for a 7am class...only to find that the instructor hadn't shown up. After a half-hour, he still hadn't arrived. So. Reschedule.

The cafeteria had breakfast shepherd's pie. I allowed myself.

I wondered.

I was up before 4am, but I didn't sense anything. The pups slept through it all.

Our lazy cat slept through it. :-)

Lynne thought it was a truck. I wasn't sure if it was an earthquake or an explosion. At least there was no damage. All it did was knock an Ood action figure off of one of my bookcases.

A major storm and then an earthquake? That's far too much excitement for one month. I flew today, and talked to more than one traveller who couldn't get home to Chicago. I hope it melts quickly.
