Montpelier, Vermont was ranked #3 in AARP's list of "Best Places to Live the Simple Life." I looked at all the pretty photos, then I poked around online and signed up for a free issue of Vermont Life magazine.

Snow doesn't bother me as long as I don't have to drive in it too much.

I really like NYC, and well, just a train ride away.

Just pondering.

Looks very nice, and that's a beautiful part of Vermont. As you know, I'm tempted by Hanover, New Hampshire. Houses are pricier but taxes are lower than Vermont, and there's Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in case things go tilt.

Plus a decent supply of brewpubs and good bookstores, both musts.

Good info to have.

Nothing is set in stone. I really should, like, travel out there at some point and drive around. Aimless wandering. I haven't had a break like that since...never.

I checked the map. Montpelier is not that far from Hanover.

I just signed up for a NH magazine sub as well.

Maybe it's the fall snap in the air, I don't know. When fall approaches, I think of New England.

I have virtually no experience with New England, but upon a visit to a friend who lives there I determined Mystic, CT is the sort of town that could draw me there. (Except, I suspect, for the outrageous house prices...)

Well if you're ever up for a weekend in New Hampshire, let me know. Did I mention my friends who live near Hanover have a new puppy?

It may be an old puppy by the time I get up there.

I would like to plan a trip for next year. I need to stop chewing up all my vacation with the writing thing.

Classic New England seaside town, so yeah, prices.

This plan of mine is a few years out. Three, maybe five years. Unless I find a job out there or something.

I grew up in assorted places in New England. Spent my working life in the Midwest. I hope to head back when I retire and I've been looking around Middlebury VT or Keene NH. I want a small college town and have also looked at Hanover.

You should also check for an online newspaper from those towns you're interested in. I'm from upstate NY and occassionally think about living back there. I've gone so far as to sign up one newspapers e-mail updates from the paper's business section and Hers Section...don't get me started on the local real estate offices whose listings are so fun to check. LOL

You might want to check the state tax burden ranking of Vermont.
Ouch.

It's about the same as Wisconsin, which was also on my list. All the NE states are on the high end except for New Hampshire. All the states that interest me are on the high end. Illinois isn't that far behind them, either, so at least I'm getting used to it.

Would love to move out to the country and ride my mobility scooter all day across the painted landscape. God made such a beautiful world. I just got a new scooter from Scooters 'N Chairs (http://www.scootersnchairs.com) and couldn't be happier ^_^
