Forty-five years ago today, I was outside with my Dad. Long Island. Cold. Leaves had fallen. I don't remember what led up to it, or what followed. I just remember a lady walking by with her dog and Dad telling her that the President had been shot.

I was in art class and we were all told to go back to home room. Then the announcement came over the intercom and we were told to go home. We all sat glued to the TV. Natural now, not so much at the time.
