B- from the Genius bar just called. The iMac does indeed have a fried main logic board. The repair would be $700, with only a 90 day warranty. Given that brand new iMacs start at a shade over $1000, it doesn't seem worth it.

No, I am not going to consider switching out boards myself.

So, no repair. I would like to put off buying a new system until I get some book money in hand, so here's hoping the iBook holds up.

Yes, it got through, I've read the first two chapters -- excellent stuff (I only have one comment so far but I want to read the entire thing before I make any comments), and I hope to finish reading it today if schedule permits (yesterday I was out much of the day).

I'm sitting out on the deck, taking advantage of the sun and warm. It's supposed to cool off by the end of the week, and I doubt we'll see the 70s again after that. Although I am perfectly willing to be proved wrong.

I bought a MacBook in January when I thought the iBook was on its last legs. I like it, although the black keyboard is hard to see in bad lighting.

I saw a photo online. The question is, do I go for another notebook, or get a desktop? Desktops are usually faster and more stable over time, or so I've heard. But laptops are, well, portable.

Oddly, I'm raring to go onto the next project. The flush of energy may fade, or it may just be that with all my kids out of the house I simply have a ton more energy than I had before when so much was expended in caretaking/shepherding/parenting duties. Also, I'm really excited about the next project because it's on spec. Not that I'm not excited by my contracted projects; it's just something i haven't done in a long while so there is an element of novelty.
