Presidential election + Book Due = GEROFF THE INTERNETS ALREADY AND WRITE SOMETHING!

The Rachel Maddow Show debuted this week. I like Rachel--she seems a reasoned and thoughtful pundit. I just don't understand her apparent affection for Pat Buchanan. Point-Counterpoint is Good, says one who remembers the good ol' days of James Kirkpatrick and Nicholas von Hoffman, but Buchanan just keeps blurting the party line with little regard for reality. Maybe that's the point. But that leave Rachel trying to mudwrestle a pig--with or without lipstick. I don't know. I just never enjoy those arguments.

Twice I have witnessed Gaby take toys away from King. And he lets her. She pulls on his ears and barks at him and nips the side of his face. And he lets her.

As far as the humans in her life are concerned, her face will save her. Just saying.

Rainy weekend coming up, apparently. Rats.

I hope everyone out there in Ike's path stays safe and dry.

She and Pat have been co-pundits for a while on other MSNBC shows, and probably get along well offscreen. (Similar to Mike Huckabee: I find his personality quite likable, but I don’t want him anywhere near the levers of power.)

You may be right, although I've seen things get testy at times on the air. I thought I heard her refer to him once as something like 'her crotchety uncle.' I just think there have to be better conservative pundits out there.

Well, the list of conservative pundits willing to face interrogation by a liberal lesbian Rhodes scholar may be a bit short...

I adore Rachel, frankly, and tolerate her "fake uncle", as she calls him, because I always want to hear what she has to say.

And I, too, am having a terrible time trying "geroff the internets" and work on the damn book! I follow the polls, and my mood goes up and down with that blue line. Ridiculous.

Given that she seems more open than most to actual debate and discussion rather than the same old shouting, bleating of talking points, and interruptions...ah. I see your point.

There have to be a few out there. Maybe they've been hiding. I could certainly understand.

That's why I really need to wean myself. I read one story, and I feel optimistic. Then the next thing I read kicks the skids out from under.

I used to only commit one hour in the evenings to TV I actually had to listen to--as opposed to sports, which I can listen to with the sound off--until Rachel came along. Now it's two hours, and that is too much. But there's too much going on.

::dammit::

I hate following politics, but I hate going uninformed even more. I’ve made a habit of posting my election research on my LJ for all my friends to read, so I can at least tell myself I’m saving them a headache or two. After following it enough, I’m beginning to be able to let go and look at the long term rather than being on the emotional rollercoaster of “this might be the turning point when we finally start fixing things” vs. “have the UK relaxed quarantine restrictions on pets? ’cos I’m not putting my cats in a kennel for 6 months if I leave the country”...
