Strange first day of vacation. Awakened by puppy who couldn't figure out why I wasn't up at 4am.
Wonderfully cool morning for a last day in June. Took the guys for their walk. The coolth slowed the mosquitoes down quite a bit, though it didn't stop them completely. Came home. Wrote a little. Then, first pedicure since my spa visit during Torcon. Showed up at salon, and received the nicest surprise. I should say that I am a regular--facials and haircut every 6 weeks, massages a couple of times a month. Been doing this for a year and a half. July is busy--it's a facial/haircut month, and I have a massage coming up. Pedicure today. Well, the owner gave me a birthday present, a gift card that covers all four visits, a thank you for being such a good customer. Oh, and it came tucked in a birthday card that sings "(Kick Your Heels Up and) Shout." And a nice note.
I was floored.
So, my toenails are now ballet slipper pink. I went with a pale color so it didn't look too awful as it wore off.
One goal this week is to do a semi-major outdoor chore each day. Saturday, I skipped, because it was hot and muggy. Yesterday, I mowed the lawn. Today, I trimmed some shrubs in the backyard. Tomorrow, I may give the gutter covers a try.
Unfortunately, the writing fell off a bit over the weekend. No totals yet, but I didn't hit my daily 1K goal. I should make it tonight, and would love to hit 1500 if possible. Plot is starting to fall into place. I am a little concerned that the beginning is a little draggy, but a way to condense matters in bubbling in the backbrain. Approaching 27K words total, which is about a quarter of the way home. It shakes out to about 675 words a day, but I picked up the pace a little toward the end of the month. I've decided on Labor Day as the goal for finishing the draft because that allows me a long holiday weekend.
You just keep plugging, and after a few months, you have a book.
Watched Silence of the Lambs for the first time this weekend. I read the book years ago, and liked it a lot...although Harris has this annoying habit of changing POVs in the middle of scenes which some folks have no issues with, I know, but which takes me aback.
But I digress.
Anyway, I liked the movie. I think it lost something by being on a small screen and chopped with commercials, but Hopkins was good, as was Foster. I may need to watch it again to appreciate it.
Does anyone else think Scott Glenn is hot? To me, he always had that rangy Sam Shepherd thing going, but with a sharpness Shepherd doesn't possess. Anyway, Glenn in glasses. A yes.
Missed the scene with Chris Isaak as the SWAT guy. And the line "It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again" is running through my head at odd times. Not a particularly comfy line of dialogue, even if one has a weakness for thrillers.
