Bit of a thunderstorm pushing through. The novelty.

Things learned today--King and Mickey can tell time. I decided to forego the 4am wake up on weekends in order to catch up on sleep. At 430am, I was awakened by two pacing puppies. Got up to let them outside. Let them back inside, then confused them by going back to bed. But--but Mom!!

They both lay down, but they watched me carefully. Every time I moved, they got up. At any rate, slept in until 7am, which was nice. Saw that the Mickster was still limping, though not as badly as yesterday. Still, I steeled myself against his gimpy prances of excitement and canceled his walkies for the day. Took King alone. I felt sorry for Mickey, but I made the right decision. His limp is easing, and the area no longer feels warm. I'll give him a couple more days, I think, just to make sure he's healed.

It felt strange to walk only one dog.

I hadn't intended to do any shopping. But the supply of doggy aspirin was well past its expiry date, and even though Mickey's limp had lessened, I wanted to have some on hand. So, tried a local big box that has a decent pet section. No luck with the aspirin. Found people bedding on sale, however, and wound up buying a new bedspread. Drove a few towns over to pet big box, and found aspirin. Went to hardware big box next door to look for grass shears, and wound up buying one of those hand-held shower head thingies. Decided to forego the shears. Will use scissors instead.

Groceries. Found yet another store that sells Kris Pinot Grigio. Bought two bottles of same. Home. Cleaned out freezer. Installed new shower head. Wrote a little. Checked weather, saw incoming storm, and decided to give gutters a quick cleanout. I have a couple of tools I can use from the ground, gutter tongs and a hose attachment that lets me shoot a high pressure stream of water down the gutter, flushing stuff out.

Unfortunately, sometimes you need to see what you're doing. I scooped out as much as I could, flushed, and saw the gutter was overflowing at the drain end, which meant the drain was clogged. Looked to the west. Saw the darkening sky. Realized I needed to unclog the gutter fast.

Last year, I bought this nifty multifunction ladder, but never got around to taking it out of the wrapping because it looked, well, more complicated than I had thought. Desperation does wonders for resolve, however, so. Unwrapped ladder. Read instructions. As is usual in cases where I think something is going to be Whoa complicated, ladder adjustment turned out to be pretty straightforward. And it is so nice and steady--my sidewalk is uneven in places, and this ladder stayed solid.

Climbed ladder. Checked out drain. Yup--plugged. Stuck hand in drain and pulled out handfuls of needles and pinecones--it turned out to be plugged all the way to the first bend. No wonder the gutter kept overflowing.

Anyway, my exciting day. Gutter is now clean. I know how to use my ladder. I have a new shower head.

The rain looks to be easing. Need to feed the pups and write some more.

Oh, yeah, dogs can tell time. Mine used to get really really impatient at 10am, which was when I usually brought her for the morning walk. And she'd come flump outside our door at about 7, when it was time to get up, and she'd Sigh Heavily, Waiting For The Humans. :) They totally can tell time. :)

I missed today's 4am wake-up call, assuming there was one. Awoke at 630 or so, but didn't move. Made some noise at 7am-ish, and both were up and swirling 'round me. King got to push my slipper in my face for the first time in a week. I think he missed that.

According to the radar, a storm will be here in 15 minutes or so, which may put paid to King's walk this morning. He senses it, I think, since he's lying under the desk at my feet.
