...the sound of a check being cut. That's the only explanation that I have for the fact that my old 4-cup coffeemaker has joined the iPod in the Let's Act Up parade. They heard the sound of funds headed in this direction.

I restored the iPod's factory settings, and am reloading the music now. If the problem is the hard drive, I hope it crops up over the weekend. Otherwise, it'll be next weekend before I can get to the nearest Apple Store to have it looked at, and I've become pretty dependent on it where running is concerned. Honestly, I don't know if I would've been able to accomplish what I have without "Bodyrock" blasting in my ear on a regular basis. "Push It". "Busy Child."

Laundry is being done. Vacuuming is a possibility. The glamour never stops.

Does anyone have an explanation for the fact that since I installed Leopard, the LJ Tags autofill no longer works?

You might want to consider a iPod shuffle for running. They have refurbed ones at online Apple store for $49. The advantage is there's no hard drive to bounce around as you run. I've heard that using people often have more trouble with the hard drive ones when they use them for very active things like running on a regular basis. But there's no moving parts in a shuffle or nano.

That's an idea. I place my iPod in a padded holder on the treadmill dashboard, but I guess it's possible that enough vibration got through to ruin it.

I reinstalled the factory settings last night. Played it for a little while, and all was well. Tried playing it in the car this morning, and it started cutting out again. I'm wondering if the tape relay I use to play it in the car has something to do with it, but I'll find out tomorrow at the Apple Store.

Isn't amazing how attached one gets to one's iPod? I had a 4G that got dunked in water twice in 4 months and the week without before I got my used video 5G was traumatic. :)
