Mowed the lawn Friday. On Saturday, bought a small Japanese maple and two hardy rhododendra, among other things--so help me, hardware stores have replaced office supply stores in the "Oh Look Shiny--Don't Let Me Go In There Alone And Someone Take Away My Debit Card" sweepstakes. A couple of solar lanterns were also bought. Motor oil for the lawnmower. Once home, I dragged out the roto-tiller and started on the Weedy Corner. Figured out after the roto-tiller clogged that I needed to pull all the wild violets/whatever in hell those purple flowered thingies are before I tilled. Four lawn bags later, I had cleared the area kinda--damned wild whatever-the-hells broke off at ground level, leaving roots behind. I pondered the cunning nature of this survival trait since that kept me from swearing, jumping up and down, and otherwise entertaining the neighbors.

Pulled weeds. Tilled about half the corner. Ran out of energy, and decided to leave the rest for during the week.

Sunday, today--Happy Mothers Day!!--I changed the oil in the lawn mower. Ate ribs and drank beer. Worked on the Gideon synopsis, and had vast quantities of Plot and stuff drop into my head from wherever. There is now a love triangle, which up to this weekend was unanticipated. Reasons for one major plot turn have been shored up. I'm still pondering a couple of others. I like this story.

I hope the purple thing the breaks off and leaves the roots isn't vinca...one of the most evil garden plants anywhere. It has underground "bulbs" too, so it will keep coming back...rototill, hand pick out the bulblets, water and fertilize until they sprout vigorously, spray them with (diluted less than recommended) Roundup. Repeat. You can add a thick layer of black plastic in the routine too to help exhaust the food storage. Repeat.

Beer! Sounds good! *pssssst*

I just edge sanded all the lumber for the new bookshelves, go me!

I Googled. I don't *think* it's vinca--the leaves of my stuff look too big, and they grow in clusters more than 6 inches high. Plus this stuff is growing in full sun, where vinca isn't supposed to thrive. But I will check when I get home.

I'm not the greatest beer fan in with world, but sometimes it's just right.

Sanding!!! Go! You!
