Signs that Spring is really here

Spotted first mosquitoes of the year. Killed same.

First fly of the year is currently buzzing around my office, beating itself against the screen. Will soon kill same.

Dogs eating grass on a regular basis. Horking up same.

Aw the lovely sounds of spring: "Hronk, Hwack, Gwawp, Hronk." Mine eat the grass and then expel same on the carpet. Or Zoe waits until we go to bed and in the dark you hear the Horking sounds from somewhere on the bedspread. However, since her brain has finally been installed, life is better (it's an Atari 64K brain, but still...a brain). She is one of the best snuggle dogs in the universe so we love her.

I had a discussion a few years ago with a vet tech about why dogs eat grass. I had read that they eat it to clear parasites from their digestive tract--it's too short to digest grass, and the stuff emerges practically intact. Vet tech mentioned the other prevailing hypothesis, that dogs eat it to supplement a diet lacking in some nutrient. We both settled on the conclusion that they just like grass.

I'm glad to know that. I used think they were sick when they ate grass. Finally, I decided they just wanted a salad bar.
