Working during lunch
May. 1st, 2007 12:03 pmAny book where I get to write a spell in the first chapter promises to be a fun book. Maybe not fun for my characters, but fun for me from a writing pov.
A lot happens in this first chapter. It pretty much sets up the entire book. Still sorting out names and Writing The Dialogue First. Inserting the hints of things to come. Already ready had a couple of small "click" moments, when I write something, then stare at it and realize it pulls a couple of plot lines together and opens up another and just plain *fits*. I love those moments.
Good news on the health front. Visit to dermatologist for one thing led to discussion of other things, which led to blood tests. Office phoned today--all results normal. Let's hear it for normal results. May they continue, since I still need to set up the usual visits that I told myself I would set up earlier this year. But, one thing at a time, because I really hate going to the doctor.
I'd much rather write spells. Watch baseball. Play with the pups.

Date: 2007-05-01 10:28 pm (UTC)1)the book under discussion. Gonna do my damnedest to sell it, but usual disclaimers apply. You can be a good guy or a bad guy. Lots of death at the end of this one--major dust-up--that could wipe you out.
2) a Janiverse story, likely the story of how Niall Pierce acquired his scar. Again, the likely demise thing. Again, the usual disclaimers.
Any preferences?

Date: 2007-05-01 10:31 pm (UTC)I hope someone buys this book. I have entered that writer's no-man's land known as Nothing Currently Under Contract. Well, there's the option book, but that's not the same thing as advance w/ deadlines.

Date: 2007-05-01 11:44 pm (UTC)We've never met... which I hope to remedy on WisCon soon, but one thing you'll eventually know is that, for something I hold dear, you may embarrass me in passing, but you can't shame me. I hold your work in too high an esteem for that to be possible.
Final point for this round... if the item doesn't get published, can I still get a manuscript copy? Maybe signed? I'd rather be in the trade papers, but that's not always going to happen, even to you, damn it all. (grin)

Date: 2007-05-02 01:47 am (UTC)Well, I've Tuckerized one person up to this point--the character Bon in CI, in case anyone's keeping track--and I will say that it isn't my inclination to abuse via Tuckerization. I will write a character that fits. Not a walk-on.
The How-Niall-Got-His-Scar story, it is. I have a couple of markets in mind for this one. If it makes the rounds and doesn't sell, I will definitely provide you a signed manuscript copy. I will, however, do my damnedest to sell it because, well, Selling Is Good.
Niall's a teenager in this one. This is during his pre-Service life, when he worked as a smuggler on his native Victoria. I'm aiming for noir. We'll see how it goes...
