Dragged out the battery charger yesterday to try to get the remains of Harrison's battery charged so I could drive him to the repair shop. Read the directions carefully, because I had never used the thing before and I really didn't want to blitz the entire electrical system. Hooked it up. Turned it on. Looked at the indicator to find that nothing was really happening--the display remained in the default position, whch unfortunately is the Full Charge position. Still, had to give it a try. But after an hour and a half and the needle not budging, I unhooked everything and tried to start Harrison. ::clickclickwhirrwhirr::, you've heard this song before.

Called the garage--guy tells me to contact their tow company and have Harrison brought in. Nice tow truck guy tries to get Harrison started, in case all it needs is a boost. Not even the 100 amp shot-to-the-heart setting worked. Tow guy said that it was likely the battery, but could also be the starter.

*blech*

ANYway, to make a short story long, garage calls this morning. I was braced for bad news, but turns out that it was just the battery. New, more powerful battery has been installed. They checked the alternator as well--that's still good to go. Harrison is home now.

I love my Forester, but I'm fond of Harrison, too. My first brand new vehicle, he was. Granted, he hasn't been rode real hard, but smetimes underuse is harder on an engine than overuse. Still, nine years old, and this battery thing was the first issue that required towing intervention. He's a good truck.

Still on vacation. Pot roast in the oven. Time to write.

Huzza! for just needing a new battery. Hope your vacation is going well. (And the writing, adds the waiting reader. :-)

What would have been nice is one week to work on all the around-the-house stuff that fell by the wayside last year because I didn't have any vacation, and one week to just sit and write.

But there's no such thing as 'just sit and write' when you have a house, dogs, and other things that need doing. Some mouth always pops up out of nowhere and shouts "Feeeeeed Meeeeee!"

A doorway to a desert island would be nice...
