...if I showed up at Wiscon in a black frock coat and a walking stick?

(If you think me a twit anyway, kindly refrain from weighing in. You'll skew the results)

Not that I'll be at Wiscon, but nope, I wouldn't th ink you a twit. I think you'd look cool dressed like that. Go for it.

I think you'd look fabulous, actually. And given that it's Wiscon, chances are you'll be hit on and flirted with if you showed up in something like that. A lot.

I think that would be awesome.

Oh, gracious, no! Where else would one wear a frock coat?

I'm showing up in a zoot suit. I think We'd make a lovely couple. Please do.

I'm actually hoping to NOT need my walking stick by wiscon. :(

Not necessarily looking for that *mumblemumble*, but I bought this coat and I want to wear it. And I found the walking stick this morning in the basement, and I think it'll work...

Now I just need to lose ten pounds so it'll be comfortable, too.

Because I also have this lacy cuff shirt...

I've been following your clothing posts. Iwish my stuff measured up, authenticity-wise, but it doesn't. Some day, I would like to get a coat like this. Maybe it would be cheaper to have it made...

It's a pseudo frock coat--the ad calls it an equestrian coat. I bought it and the shirt a while ago, and they've just sort of sat there, waiting for an occasion.

Someday, I'm going to get a *real* frock coat...

Oh cool--what color's the suit?

My walking stick is black with a silver bulldog's head. The coat has silver buttons. It could work...

Yea--permission.

I'd wear my frock coat if it were cool, and if I actually would get to go! (Don't have a walking stick though.)

Do it! Wiscon, from what I understand, is all about women getting to be right out there in the arts, in their lives, and not being "least and lowest" any more.

But of course, m'dear. :-) You must remember, though, you look good in just about anything.

I once considered hating you for that, but decided it was counter-productive. ;-)

I've been collecting vintage pieces for nigh on twenty years now. Don't often get a chance to wear them, alas.

There are patterns available for various styles of frock coats if you were inclined to make one yourself, or know someone handy with a needle. I have this one (https://www.reconstructinghistory.com:4438/index.php?s=&c=22&d=36&e=&f=&g=&w=21&q=1&p=68&r=Y) on order. It's been years since I did any kind of serious sewing, so I'll probably do a cotton mock-up first, just to see how difficult it is. If that doesn't prove beyond my skill, I'm going to make a coat up in green and blue silk to match my Gossamer Fair (http://www.angel-mask.com/faemagic.htm) mask. Again, no idea where I'll wear it, but hey.

Even though my jacket isn't full-blown period, I debated getting it because the only place I'd wear it is a con, and it would need to be the right con.

That coat will be lovely.

My dear, a frock coat and walking stick are always acceptable attire. ;-)

Actually, working at the museum gives me a lot of excuses to play dress-up, though not as many as I'd have if I was living in an area with a lot of fellow costuming geeks, mind. And I just like the challenge of sewing and putting outfits together.

But half the reason I like going to certain cons is the excuse to wear clothes I don't usually wear. That's the beauty of the SF&F community. 8)

Only the fact that you are many sizes smaller than I am will prevent me from mugging you for the coat. :-)

I will have my walking stick, in any case.

I won't drive up in it, but I'll likely wear it to The Gathering. And maybe the Dessert Thingie.
