Kerry got screwed by the Right Wing Corporate Media. His mistake is forgetting that they will distort and take things out of context. If you notice, they never show the comments BEFORE nor the comments AFTER that. Put it in context and he is insulting Bush, but media hacks are hiding the context. Hopefully once the dems take control, they will regulate the hell out of the media and break up the rightwing stranglehold.
I think Corporate Media is one issue. I also think that some messengers are lazy--they don't ask follow-up questions, or look much beneath the surface. They couldn't nail a story with a hammer.
Bleh. Kerry just screwed up. Even taken in context, what he said was just plain wrong. Now, if you *add* words to what he said -- like "with us", for example -- then sure, it can be taken differently. But adding words can change the meaning about most sentences.
"Kerry is a stupid person." Oh, wait, sorry, what I meant to say was "Kerry thinks Bush is a stupid person." See? Just two words, and the meaning is entirely different.
Sorry. Kerry dug his own hole. Sure, the political media blew it up to astronomical proportions ... that's their job. But while some finger pointing can be done at them, ultimately the person who said the idiotic things in the first place needs to be held accountable. John Kerry, George Bush, Bill Clinton, Rush Limbaugh ... stop laying blame on the media. Just suck it up and deal with the fact that you said or did something stupid.
Owning up is all well and good. I just wish the hammer fell with equal force. As part of his "Special Comments" last night, Keith Olbermann discussed the joking presentation Bush gave a few years ago about his hunt through this office for those missing WMDs. Bush should've been drop-kicked across three states for that one.
Maybe we'll finally see the delayed reaction next Tuesday.
