But, we have achieved finished draft of Incident. Final count: 131 pages/27339 words.

Not completely happy with the last few scenes, and I still need to address some of the comments from beta readers. But the draft is done. Now I can set it aside until, I don't know, Monday. Between now and then, I'll deal with the elephant in the room.

Hey -- even a first draft is reason to celebrate! So, this is a...novelette? Are you thinking one of the magazines? Or did it just come out, and you have no idea what to do with it other than finishing it?

I think the size qualifies it as a novelette--what's the novella/novelette cut-off, 17,500 words? Anyway, the story is supposed to appear in the October issue of Baen's Universe online magazine.

Both. Universe is a new market--bimonthly, online, first issue came out in June--but it's very well-paying. Eric asked for the story last November at WFC, and barring disaster, it's slated to appear in the October ish.

Sweet. I'd heard there was real money for pros in it, but wasn't sure about the details. Hope it's well-received!
