Yesterday temps hovered near 90F. Today we didn't break 70F. Summer in northern Illinois.

Temps are supposed to wander back up to the 90s by Thursday, which meant that today was a lawn mowing day. Much assistance provided by the pups.

It's great to be a dog. There's your person, walking back and forth pushing this loud, cutty thing that weighs a lot and stinks. You, on the other hand, get to walk around, crop grass and crop grass and crop grass, then york up a wodge of it right where person is about to push the loud, stinky thing. That's almost as much fun as taking a dump in the path of the loud, stinky thing--if you do that, your person has to stop pushing the loud, stinky thing around and go get the scoop and rake to clean up your stuff. Then you can grab the stick and bring it to her so that she can throw it.

Sometimes she throws it waaaaaaay far.

Life with Dogs.

Allergies are playing hell because of the schizoid weather. Trying to write now.

Wish we could trade weather, sigh. Nineties here, too, but in another month the true hell of summer begins-two to three months of dry scorching unending heat.

I don't know if I could handle that. I haven't really ever been exposed to dry heat. I remember Anaheim during the '96 Worldcon--folks complained about the heat, but I was perfectly comfortable. San Antonio in '97 was another story, I think because of the humidity. The heat felt like a weight that pressed in from all sides.

OTOH, during the summer of '88 here, we suffered through day after day of temps above 100 along with blasting southwest winds. Had it driven home with a hammer what the term "crazy from the heat" actually meant. I wanted to flail and rip the heat away, as if that would have worked. Again, it felt like a weight pressing in from all sides.

I love your descriptions of how you interact with the pooches.

If you shocked yourself every single time you touched metal, your skin hurt as if you'd been flayed, your sinuses were so painful that you had bloody noses, yes, that's the Santa Ana winds--what we get from September through November. Sometimes it starts early, sometimes late. Sometimes lasts into Christmas.
