So I gacked from [livejournal.com profile] dancinghorse for a change.

I'm a Mandarin!

You're an intellectual, and you've worked hard to get where you are now. You're a strong believer in education, and you think many of the world's problems could be solved if people were more informed and more rational. You have no tolerance for sloppy or lazy thinking. It frustrates you when people who are ignorant or dishonest rise to positions of power. You believe that people can make a difference in the world, and you're determined to try.

Talent: 41%
Lifer: 46%
Mandarin: 51%

Take the Talent, Lifer, or Mandarin quiz.

I got an even tie (49%) between Talent and Mandarin -- probably because I wasn't sure whether to answer the job questions about the day job or the job as a writer. :-)

That was my problem, too. I am sure that if I answered with the Day Job in mind, I'd get Lifer. If I answered with Writing in mind...I should take it that way, and see what happens.

heh, might get Lifer there as well...

I feared I would get the lifer thing, too. This seems to be the common distribution for people who believe in meritocracy but have managed to grasp how rarely that exists.

Worrying about retirement seems to plunk you into the Lifer boat, too.

I once took one of those career quizzes at the Day Job, and my two highest scoring categories were Entrepreneur and Security. Sounds schizo, but I took it to mean that I wouldn't take the leap re full-time writing until I had my financial bases covered. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's good to know that no matter what, the mortgage is paid.

I answered some questions while considering the writing as the Job, and still got Mandarin. However, the score was closer to the Talent value.
