I know. It’s been a while. I’ve been saying that a lot lately.

I plead The Busy. Prepping CODE OF CONDUCT files for release. The ebook is available for pre-order over on Amazon (and now Kobo too), and, barring technical difficulties, should pop up in other ebook stores–iBooks, Nook–over the next few days. Working on a trade paper edition, which may not make the 1 December release date but should be available soon after. Also working on interview questions for my BookView CafĂ© launch. Plotting a Jani novella, which I thought would prove relatively simple at first. But plot has grown Complex, with much backstory that needs to be carefully interwoven so that folks who’ve read the novels don’t get bored and those new to the world don’t get lost.

I also have Alex Gordon work to do, namely proposals for future books. Copyedits for JERICHO, the next book in the GIDEON series, should turn up in a couple of weeks. And as I’ve mentioned before, maintaining two separate online identities is difficult and at this point no longer necessary. So I will be working with wiser webheads than I to combine my two sites into one.

Also too, newsletter. Working on getting that started, too. It will be a combo of Kristine Smith and Alex Gordon news and updates, with links to interesting articles and research, background about the books, snippets, and, hopefully, contests for ARCs and other neat stuff. IOW, there will be good reasons to sign up. But I want it to be solid as possible from the start, which means I don’t just want to toss a sign-up widget up there. As soon as something is ready to go, I will post.

Not sure if I will be posting again before US Thanksgiving. If not, here’s my version of a Happy Thanksgiving e-card. Gaby, kitted out in a holiday neckerchief. Safe and happy holiday, to all who celebrate.

May the snow not trouble you, may you and Gaby both stay healthy, and may everything go your way for a long, long while.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal, whatever it may be.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Elizabeth.

I have been following your new furniture posts with a bit of envy. I've been holding off on buying new because Oh I'll Be Moving Soon/Next Year/Whenever. Meanwhile, my lower back is bugging me because the old furniture offers no support, the shabbiness of my 25+ yo couch depresses me, and I have rescued chairs in the garage that could look like a million bucks with some refinishing and new upholstery.

So I think I am going to put more effort into making this current abode feel more like home until I find Home. Starting with looking for a new couch as soon as the JERICHO D&A arrives.

I have no idea what your taste in furniture is, but I was pleased with the furniture I just bought. Spent a half-hour this afternoon on the loveseat while our very long-tall-Texan son was stretched out on the couch, chatting with him. We both found our respective lounging spots comfortable. The service from the store was great in all ways except that they didn't have this model or anything with this upholstery on the floor (it was all browns, creams, blacks, and Big! Bold! patterns.) I had looked online at a number of furniture places, most of which have lousy, hard to navigate websites (may be different in your area) and ended up going with a particular Ashley Furniture Home Store near Austin because I knew I could find it easily and quickly (aside from the miles in between.) Turned out to be a good choice. Both Rooms To Go and Ashley Furniture have reasonably decent websites though both get quirky with anything but standard room designations and the contents therefore. Rooms To Go, though, willl have something "in stock" on the website for a particular store that is NOT in stock, and thus will take longer when you order it. If you have the sense to order 4-8 weeks before you have a hoard of company coming, this won't bother you. I bitched gently at the Rooms To Go person about that, suggesting that updating the website to show actual "in stock" would prevent customer annoyance when something isn't.

And probably you have plenty of good stores up there to choose from. I hope you find exactly what you're looking for. (Gaby-acceptable, too.)

We have Ashley up here. I will check them out.

I'd like something like a smaller L-shaped sectional with a lounge chair at one end. Room for Gaby to stretch out, and a comfy chair for me without the issue of needing to find room for a chair and a couch.

My issue is that I need to get some stuff--an old desk, a curio cabinet--out of here first. I mean, I don't have to, but it would be nice.
