'member that Fashionista who nailed a $900K advance for her Devil Wears Prada-like proposal that turned out to contain unattributed material from other peoples' work? That contained snippets of conversations with people who in fact never met her?

All gone. The publisher canceled the deal.

In other news, the rain finally pushed out an hour or so ago. My backyard is a'flooded.

No drought this year, I think.

Ouch! I can feel the heat from that mess where I'm sitting!

What boggled me about the whole thing was that she didn't think anyone would check. A small, hothouse world where everyone knows everyone else--she named names, and she didn't think anyone would compare notes. How mind-numbingly stupid is that?

And now her credibility is shot to hell. And the thing of it is, she probably doesn't even realize what that means.

Self-obsession, the entitlement complex, the unshakeable feeling that one is ever so much more special and clever than everyone else? What this reminds me of, though obviously writ large, are the morons who write godawful self-published novels (which is not in and of itself a sin) and then run around on the internet writing pretend reviews (which is a killin' offense). You can spot them a mile away... "I don't know the author, but I just want to point out {Stupid Book}, the very best sci-fi book I ever read! Thrills a minute! Classic stuff! Buy it here!"

People like this behave as though the internet was invented five minutes ago, and they're criminal masterminds in their own heads, and they simply refuse to hear otherwise.

Given the apparent history, I think there may be other explanations, none of which indicate that any lessons will be learned from this disaster.
