What I did. This evening.

Thanks to a series of last minute cancellations and being at the right place at the right time, I was invited to join a shooting party organized by Dave Godwin and John Kentner, the NADWcon programming chair.

First-time shooter, me. I started with a .22. Tried a Glock. But my favorite was the .45 that had belonged to John Kentner's mother. She had apparently been quite the competition shooter in her time.

The Mossberg 550 shotgun left a bruise on my right shoulder.

Good research. I even hit the targets a few times. There may be more of this in my future, at some point in time when I actually have time again.

aka, NADWcon, Day 2.

The Henry Vilas Zoo, a free zoo located in the middle of Madison, closed off the primate house for a few hours today so folks from the con could see the orangutans. I have video. Once I figure out how to load it, I will post links, and photos.

Once back at the hotel, I showered and donned velvets and might possibly have terrified a wannabe. Suffice it to say that Dave G and I told them a few things about their tale-in-progress that they may or may not have wanted to hear. I then imparted some things I had learned over time. Again, they may not have wanted to hear them although they seemed welcoming and appreciative, but also a bit stunned. What can I say? When you choose to write....I don't want to bestow upon it the aura of sainthood, but there is a bit of a calling about the thing, and you need to balance it with the commerce. Some may be able to avoid the realization. Not all of us have that luxury. What results is a schizophrenic mindset. You learn to live with the balance, or you don't.

The Wit and Wisdom of Kris, FWIW.

Then came the Seamstress Guild Party, with unusual drinks and beads.

Very busy day tomorrow. Four items of programming, including a reading which I hope at least a few folks attend b/c it's opposite the Maskerade and we know how that goes, don't we?
