50s and foggy. A nasty wodge of rain is headed this way, after which the warm-up is *supposed* to come. I'll believe it when I feel it.

Friday night, I went to one of the local big boxes and bought a couple of shelving units. Yesterday I assembled them and took them down to the basement, where they now stand in place of the Useless Table that I disassembled last week. I don't know if I will dump much more stuff this weekend--I brought up a mess o' boxes, which I need to break down for the recycle, and may bring up a few more. But I can shift things so that I have more floor space, which will be nice.

I also replaced my mailbox. I had one of those Rubbermaid black plastic ones, which was about as glamorous as cold oatmeal but did the job for over ten years. But it had oxidized to powdery gray, and the mylar numbers were peeling off. The red flag fell off last year, and this year wasps found the hole and began building a nest inside the box. After evicting them twice, I decided I better get a replacement. There are some gorgeous boxes out there, but I didn't want to muck around with redrilling the platform or getting a new post. So I settled for another Rubbermaid, which happened to be on sale for $20. Installed it yesterday. The excitement, it never ends.

I would like to spend most of tomorrow sitting on the deck, but we'll see how that goes. I bought a flat of coral impatiens for the front yard planter, but if it rains too hard today I may have to wait until tomorrow morning to plant them. I also cheated and bought a sweet basil and a Cubanelle pepper that are both already a couple of inches high. The basil that I started from seeds aren't even an inch tall yet, and who knows how quickly the bell peppers I'm growing from seeds will fruit. Last year, I wasn't able to harvest anything until late September.

I swore I was going to cut back this month and save for some major house repairs, but no discipline, me. I stumbled over a couple of sales, towels in my favorite shade of muted emerald and really nice 600-count sheets for almost 60% off. I think the sheets were discounted because they're a deep mahogany shade, which may not be popular but does just happen to match a color in one of my many bedspreads. The only issue is that the pillow cases are standard, and my pillows are king. I think there was a king sheet set available in the same shade, but I'm not going to pay for a full set of bedding just for the cases. We'll see--maybe I can mix/match with what I already have. Or get smaller pillows.

I still need to do laundry. My sheets are currently running through the cycle thanks to King, whose new ploy for getting my attention is jumping up on my bed. Unfortunately, he had just come in from outside, so there was some mud involved. Luckily, he seems to have avoided the bedspread, which has a lot of bright white in it.

And the thunder is sounding and the rain it is falling. G*d, but it's dreary out there.
