ksmith: (sun flare)
Thought I'd wade into the online gamble that is LJ while I have a chance.

There's this bright thing in the sky. Not sure what it is. It brings warmth as well as light--I think it's an alien ship. If I see a blue police box hurtling through the sky at some point, I'll know I was right.

In fact, we could hit 80F today. The result of this confluence of weather factors will likely be bitchin' storms with extra added tornado warnings overnight, but for now, there's muggy warmth--yes, 65F is shorts/open doors weather up here--and I have put the outdoor-tolerant houseplants outdoors to bask. I also set out the seed tray, because it has me concerned. Two weeks, and not a single seed has sprouted. This is likely because my dining room never gets above the mid-60s, which is a little low for germination. I'm trying to avoid having to set up a light or lamp, but given that daytime highs are going to plummet back down to the 50sF after today, I may have no choice.

Oh well. Back to work.

Temps reached over 80F today, which is a bit much for early April. I ran the A/C, yes I did--the pups were spread out on any cool bare floor they could find, and I needed to use the oven, so. A/C.

It's a little cooler now. Waiting for the storms to slide in. Went outside to collect the plants, and managed to lock myself out of the house for the first time since I measured my age in single digits. Nothing like that sinking feeling when you realize that no, you don't have a set of keys in the car and no, you don't have the set that you keep in your jacket pocket because you aren't wearing a jacket.

Suffice to say that I got back inside without needing to climb through a window or break any glass. A little needless excitement to cap the weekend.

Dinner consisted of baked salmon with a drizzle of the good balsamic vinegar, mesclun with pink grapefruit, and my own homemade rosemary oven fries. I just sliced a russet, tossed the pieces with salt, pepper, and olive oil, and topped them with crush dried rosemary from last year's bush/tree/shrub/whatever. Lovely smell from the crushed needles--I know fresh herbs are better, but this rosemary still had a lot of flavor. And the fries were finished in about the same amount of time as the premade variety. Yes, they were tasiter. Crispy? No, but neither are the bagged variety unless you fry them. Lesson learned. No more bags.

Tomorrow's Monday. Wish it wasn't.

In other news--THE HAWKS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS! The Stars lost in regulation, so the Hawks are in. It was a crazy situation--if the Hawks had won today, they were in. But they lost, so all these tiebreakers came into play. Dallas had to win either in regulation or sudden death OT in order to take the #8 spot. If they lost or went to a shoot-out, they were out of the playoffs and the Hawks were in. They lost. Hawks in. Wish I felt happier about it. I mean, yes, I'm happy, and relieved that they don't join the group of 2-3 teams with the unfortunate distinction of missing the playoffs the year after winning the Cup. But they're uneven, streaky, and sometimes plain ol' lousy, and while I would love it if they turned out to be the Flyers of 2011...let's just say I'm willing to be surprised, but I'm not expecting to be.

Second episode of The Killing tonight. It's a grim thing, but I am still looking forward to it. Love Mireille Enos.

Annnd because they're the #8 seed, the Hawks will play the Canucks in the first round. The Canucks, who won the President's Trophy for best regular season record. The Hawks did not play well against them this year.

And did I mention that there's no love lost? There's no love lost.

Oy.
