Well, that was exciting
Apr. 1st, 2011 09:47 amLandscape guy (LG) came by to give the estimate for spring clean-up, and to talk about other work. We're in the front, King and Gaby are in the back. They bark every time LG goes close to the fence, but they settle down eventually.
The back door was closed. I had used the front door. Left the main door open. Storm door latch doesn't work, so that gapped slightly.
The back door doesn't always catch.
You know where this is going.
Talking with LG in the front yard when who do I see but King, standing in the front doorway. Then out he comes and away he bolts, across the street where the feral cats reside. Said cats scatter.
Gaby is right behind King.
I go inside to get leash. See that back door indeed did not catch, which is how King and Gaby got inside. By the time I get back outside, King has vanished into the woods, but Gaby is sniffing noses with the Akita across the street, where the cats live. Said Akita barks at anything and everything...except the cute little girl dog who wants to sniff noses. Anyway, I get close enough to leash Gaby. Meanwhile, LG is crouched in neighbor's yard, trying to coax King.
After a couple of minutes, King comes back. Follows me and Gaby into the house. I shut them up inside, Check All The Doors, then go back outside to finish up with LG.
I don't think neighbor was very happy with me. I have seen his cats in my yard killing birds, though, so maybe we're even.
The escapees are sleeping now.
I need to keep telling myself to CHECK THE DAMN DOORS, even if I'm sure they're fine. This seems to happen about once a year. I'm sure all is secure, but then I always forget something.
