Day of rest
Dec. 19th, 2010 03:14 pmGrocery shopping. Christmas feast bought. A pork loin for roasting. Dijon mustard for the marinade. Fennel, carrots, and onion to form the bed for the roast. Red cabbage for sauteing. Apples for a pie. 70% dark chocolate/peppermint bars just because.
Minor rant:
I do like to buy organic fruits and veggies when I can. But I am forced to get them in the grocery store, and so many of them are so danged overpackaged--plastic bags in plastic containers in plastic plastic plastic--the veggies can't breathe and start rotting. I realize organic veggies look "worse", cosmetically speaking, but I have to draw the line at mold, really I do. I have to check everything very carefully. Most times, I just give up, buy conventional, and wash it really well.
I also find the resource wastage ironic. Buy organic, and burn through a barrel of crude for the packaging in the process.
Looking forward to spring. Need to order seeds...
So far, it's been an afternoon for small chores. Moved the clock radio/iPod player into the kitchen so I can have music while I work. Harvested the tarragon and rosemary that had been drying in the spare room for way too long. Addressed more holiday cards.
Thinking about dinner. Broiled salmon. Green salad. Oven fries. Getting hungry.
I can't believe tomorrow is Monday already. This weekend went faster than usual, which is saying something. At least it's a short week. Three days, with possible snow at some point. Could be a whiter Christmas. There's still snow on the ground from the last storm, but it's gotten a little thin.
