Currently sitting in the living room, the Cubs game playing in the background. I was going to add how nice and quiet it was seeing as the pups were dozing, but just as I started to type, King got up to check the scene outside the front window. That awakened Gaby, who jumped down from the couch and followed him. Now they're both back on the rug. Gaby positioned herself in front on my chair, which will make getting up interesting. King is watching me with sad eyes, and looks as though he's just about ready to doze again.
Just finished dinner--roast chicken breast with the crabapple chutney, mashed squash, and a tomato salad. The chutney's good. Rich-tasting--I can detect the curry beneath all the other additions. Definitely different than a cranberry relish. I like it, and will make it again.
My complaint is that the recipe author specified "6 cups" of crab apples, which given the size of the things was like measuring 6 cups of racquetballs. Lots of empty space, and am I sure I'm adding enough? Too much? I wound up adding maybe 7 cups, a total of 14 of the things:

After 9 hours in the slow cooker, I wound up with about 6.5 cups of chutney instead of the expected 8 or so, which indicates to me that I could have added more apples. I wish the writer had specified weight instead of cups, or maybe indicated the size of the apples she used.
Still, it came out looking nice, thick and chunky, with a rich bittersweet color:

I put the stuff in jars, but the jars went into the freezer. No canning for me, not this year. Maybe next.
::pause while I let Gaby outside::
It's a dreary day. cool and cloudy. Rained this morning, but it's dry now. I still need to put out the garbage, but I think I'll work for a while. King went to lie by the back door--this way, he can alert me in case Gaby spots something interesting. It has the feel of a lazy day, but it's been anything but. Vacuuming. Laundry. Cooking.
I wish it was still Saturday.
