Not much going on. After I got home from work, I spend some time cleaning up the tomato plants. I trimmed suspicious-looking leaves--yellowed, with or without brown spots--on the strong plants, and pulled out a couple of tall, skinny weaklings. Then I sprayed with fungicide. Picked some half-ripened tomatoes, bagged them, and stashed them under the kitchen sink to ripen.
I have a number of misshapen, split/cracked fruits dotted with bore holes. I'm thinking of salvaging what I can and making chili this weekend. Well, maybe it won't really be chili. It will contain a piece of Lasater beef excavated from the depths of the deep freeze, some tomatoes, beans, onion & garlic. Maybe some green pepper. Spices. I'll brown the meat, then dump everything in the slow cooker and see what results. If nothing else, it will make the house smell good.
