Beautiful late afternoon yesterday. Warm and breezy enough to keep the mosquitoes away, with lower humidity. I sat out on the deck and worked for a couple of hours, and did not go all sponge-drippy. Then the sun went down, and while it was still light, the breeze died and the humidity and temp both crept up. Time to go in.

Friday afternoon's storms were attention-getting. Very high winds--the power flickered twice, but stayed on. Horizontal rains and lots of lightning. I have a birdbath that is formed from woven lengths of metal, like a bird's nest, with a glass bowl nestled within. Saturday morning, I went outside and checked for fallen branches and whatnot, and found that the bowl was missing. The birdbath itself was still upright, so it couldn't have slipped out. I hunted through the shrubbery, and found the bowl on the ground. I think the wind blew so hard that it pushed it out through the gaps in the metal. Luckily, it didn't break.

The tomatoes were blown flat as well, so I set up the cage supports a couple of weeks ahead of time. The plants are about a foot high, but a couple of them have buds already. A couple of them are also yellowed because Kris was a little too generous with the insecticidal soap. Can't win either way--lose the leaves to aphids and caterpillars, or lose them to the soap. It looks as though most of them will make it, though. I have 12 or 13 plants so far, which is way too many. But I wants the tomatoes, and the homemade marinara in January, so. Guess I will nurse them along.

Welp, I hear the pups moving about. Time to feed them...
