Thunderbumpers last night. House creaking in the wind. King lying across my feet--owie--and Gaby rightupnexttome on the couch. At least the storm didn't last long. I was feeling kinda crunched.

Not as warm today. 70s. Still, the birds are singing and everything is growing. I like summer well enough, because that's when I will harvest what I plant now. But there's something special about Spring.

Still a month and a half until the days start getting shorter again. Nice to look forward to, yeah?

Wacky dream last night. A new version of the stress dream. This time, I am cooking holiday dinner for friends, and it's been a mess from start to finish--travel plans mucked up, waking up in strange places without my luggage or knowing how I got there, then returning home to find I had left the oven on with nothing in it. Yes, I am the one traveling *and* the one who should be home cooking. Dream logic.

Finally get all my friends together in one room. They include observant members of various faiths, and what am I serving? A pork roast. So I decide to add something else to the menu. Beef. Except that one of my friends is Hindu, but he doesn't object.

Dream ends before we eat. Probably a blessing.

In a few minutes, I will be putting in my contacts. I have become a contacts wearer again. I wore them for years until the vision she went middle-age crazy. Contact companies weren't yet making progressive lenses that also corrected for astigmatism, so I was out of luck until recently. I wore the lenses for 6 hours yesterday. Toward the end, they had become a bit uncomfortable, but vision wise, they are much better than I expected. I can work on the laptop with them, which is the important thing. Reading tiny print is still a challenge, but that may improve over time. I am still correctable to 20/40, which means I can wear them to drive.

I need to wear them for 8 hours today. I see my eye doctor on Friday for a progress check.

Wearing lenses meant I needed non-prescription sunglasses. I didn't have any because I never thought I would be going back to contacts, so I got rid of them. So. Looked at some designer glasses that looked nice enough until I looked at the price and thought no.... Then the helpful optician asked, "Have you ever heard of Maui Jim's?" No, I hadn't.

They were in a locked display case, even though they weren't more expensive than some of the other sunglasses. Anyway, I tried on a few pair. These are nice glasses--thin glass lenses, special polarization, and wider styles to fit my rather wide face. No bumping into the cheeks when I smile, either. Damn. I bought the bronze Lagoons. Nice, nice sunglasses, well-made and sturdy. If you register them, Maui Jim's will repair them when needed. Service isn't free, but still. If sun protection is important to you, I would give these a look.

Work now. Massage later. Hawks are playing tonight. The Canucks are laying for them. Good times.
