Day began with eye doctor app't at 9 this morning. Eyes haven't changed since last year. In fact, the left one is a quarter unit better. Didn't need to change glasses so, decided to give toric/progressive contacts a try. Should have them in a week to 10 days.

After that, I ran the errands I usually run on Saturday--feed store, groceries, post office. Picked up Ferdie the lawn mower, who was lubed and sharpened within an inch of his grass-eating life. Be funny if I decide to stay with the lawn care service, but no matter what, he'll be there if I need him.

Six hours later, home to stay. It's windy, and about 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. But it's sunny, and I'm stubborn, dammit. I'm out on the deck. It's fine until the sun goes behind clouds, at which point it gets a little nippy. I'm still going to try to stick it out for a few hours.

Yesterday, I planted the lettuces. I gave the entire lower level of the raised bed over to mesclun mix and arugula. In 30 days, I am supposed to have harvestable greens. Here's hoping. Many sprouts in the seed tray--all four of the Pink B's and Purple C's. Two Rutgers. All four sweet basil, and 7 of 8 mixed sweet peppers. That's way more than I will be able to put in the upper level of the raised bed, so I may be putting the overflow in big pots on the deck. I have supports and plenty of chicken wire, and I'm loath to cull seedlings.

According to what I'm hearing, Spring sprang a full three weeks early this year. Trees are pumping out pollen like whoa, which explains why this is my worst allergy season in years. I hope this means that we have a longer growing season. OTOH, this is northern Illinois. Date of last freeze doesn't fall until month's end. Hell, we could still get snow.

That being said, I have never sen the daffs this lush. Flowers have exploded.
