Thanks for all the good Gaby wishes.

As I posted before, I had planned to work from home today so that I could keep an eye on Herself. Last night, I made it through a few bouts of whimpering and panting--not me, the Gabster--then remembered around midnight that I had a training course the next morning at 730am that I couldn't afford to miss. So. At that point, Gaby seemed to prefer dozing on the living room rug to any of the doggie beds, so I decided to sleep on the living room couch so that I could hear her in case she whimpered again or needed to go out.

The night was about what I expected. I managed to doze. A couple of trips outside, at around 1 and 3. Then I really fell asleep. The alarm woke me at 6, and I looked around to find Gaby curled up on one of the dog beds. A good sign.

Went to work. Completed my training. Came home and tried to dose meds. Unfortunately, both the pain med and the antibiotic need to be taken with food, and Gaby isn't eating. She showed signs of nausea last night, which you'd probably expect given the stress and the anesthetic. I managed to push a pepcid down her throat, and will try the food again in an hour or so. Vet called to see how Gaby was doing, and we talked. If Gaby doesn't eat or drink anything by late this afternoon, I will take her in for sub-q fluids and maybe an anti-nausea med.

She's on the couch next to me now, dozing. She has a little energy back, but there's still a ways to go.

Good news--Gaby is perking up. She ate enough duck heart treats to count as about half a meal, along with a dose of painkiller.

Not so good news--I tried to put an antibiotic capsule down her throat, and received a show of teeth for my trouble. I understand that she's not herself and she was likely still hurting, and she hated it when I put the metro down her throat back when her gut was acting up. But teeth aren't good, and I am at a loss about how to get this damned stuff into her. Encasing it in a wad of food would work great with King, but she would lick off the food and leave the capsule, assuming she was interested in the food. I tried adding white rice to her lunch, and she left it scattered all over the floor.

If the vet would show me, I would just give her an injection every day.

My vet had wanted to know how Gaby was doing, so I called her around 4 and told her about the ceph refusal.

cut to spare the uninterested )

It's snowing. Hard.

I admit that I didn't pay attention to the weather updates today, being as I was otherwise occupied. I had heard that we could get hit with some lake effect snow. 1-3 inches. I brought Gaby home from the vet sometime before 6pm, and everything was clear. A little over two hours later, I leashed her to take her outside and turned on the outside light and &^%$#!.

There's 3 inches of heavy powder on the ground, and it's still coming down hard. We'll wind up with more snow than we got during Monday's snowstorm-that-wasn't. It's high enough to get inside Gaby's snowboot. What the hell am I supposed to do, put her on stilts?

I'm sick of this. I'm going to have to get up early and shovel for the second time in four days. Stop it. Stop it now.
