ksmith: (coffee cup)
Up too late--1am--so didn't get up until 9ish. Half the morning shot before coffee. I don't like it, but it appears to be the pattern I slip into when I'm not day-jobbing. A two-day weekend isn't long enough for me to fall into the habit, but three or more days is. Two weeks is killer--it takes me days to readjust.

It didn't help that there was Something in the neighbors' yard last night that King and Gaby just couldn't leave alone. Midnight really is too late for barking sprees. Neither dog would come when called, so out I went into the dogmine-studded snowmelty backyard. King was easy enough to collect, but Gaby is a wily one. I finally pretended that I was going to the garage, and did she want to come? I caught her as she stepped through the gate and carried her into the house. She lay on the kitchen floor and stared at me as if to say "You *tricked* me, Mommy." I wonder if that trick will work again?

Jelly glasses--are they still around? I know Welch's and some of the other makers that specialized in grape jelly used to make them all the time. They usually were studded with cartoon characters, and were the tall water glass-style.

Bonne Maman jams come in squat tumbler-like jars that hold about 8 oz of liquid. A couple of years ago, I finished a jar, and for some reason decided to wash off the labels. Maybe I was planning to recycle, but maybe I always planned to use the jar as a drinking glass. I have a set of 11 so far--they're the perfect size for a glass of milk or a small soda. I even save the lids because the jars are good for refrigerator storage as well. I also use them as wine glasses, for that outdoor bistro feel. Not the right shape, I know, but I have been to rustic restaurants that serve wine in non-traditional glasses. Tumblers. Metal cups.

Oh well. Need to go out and get dog food. Haircut later this afternoon, which is probably when the rain will come in. Temps in the hi 30s/lo 40s over today and tomorrow, with rain, which means that by the time the temps crater on Monday we will have the makings of a really good ice rink in the backyard.
