ksmith: (coffee cup)
I'm amazed how much my FB/Twitter/LJ reading has gone down since I anchored the online laptop with the hardwire internet cable. Probably not a bad thing, at least for now.

However, I will be occasionally twittering in a group that Jeri Smith-Ready started. #NaNoREWriMo, for folks who are rewriting instead of beginning fresh. In Jeri's words, "Instead of words, we count nervous breakdowns (or chapters)."

It's WINDY!!!. The last of the leaves have blown down. With any luck, the wind will sweep most of them off my front yard. Backyard, I'm stuck with what's there thanks to the fence.

Oatmeal with brown sugar and maple syrup et. Coffee. Need to grocery shop. I already have the candy for however many trick-or-treaters show up. I never get very many.

A day

Errands. Groceries. Leaf bags and sink plugs and light bulbs. Tomorrow, some more leaf collection.

But today, laundry, with a machine that I fear may be on its last legs. Tomorrow I will be making a bacon and garlic encrusted pork loin roast according to this recipe, pretty much. I will do the bacon wrap, at least. I will serve it with a casserole of butternut squash, apples, and cranberries. I pretty much followed the recipe, except that I added a few more apples, because they were small Macintoshes. Then I added about a whole cup of brown sugar because the cranberries had been in the freezer for months and I thought they might be bitter. Then I added the zest and juice from half a large lemon to counteract in case I added too much sugar, and because otherwise I would have had to toss it. I also added a jigger of Grand Marnier because what isn't improved with a jigger of Grand Marnier? I had to bake it longer, as well, because the squash stayed hard for a while. I made it ahead of time because these types of dishes usually taste better the next day. This one tastes pretty good now, if I do say so myself. It should go well with the pork.

11 ghouls and goblins stopped by for treats, which was better than last year's total. Anything in the double digits is good in my neck of the woods--quiet, dead end street, with no kids in the immediate area to attract friends. So, I have an extra bag of Kit Kat miniatures to conjure with. Maybe I'll take it to work.

I treated myself to the Halloween show from BtVS's second season. I think some of my favorite moments are when Giles lets out a little of Ripper.
