ksmith: (gimme a break)
My problem is that when I have something hanging over my head, like monitoring a sick puppy, I have a hard time doing, much less concentrating on, anything else. I mean, I should wash my hair, but I'm reluctant to leave the living room. Mickey is lying on the floor. He's had a couple of pills and a lot of water, and I am crossing fingers that it all stays down. And it should, given the time lag, but I'm still reluctant to leave the room and like, I have to go to the bathroom, for crying out loud. But every time he moves, I have to make sure everything is ok.

This isn't going to be the most restful day.

King, of course, doesn't know what's going on. He's like the bouncy three year old vying for attention, competing with the sick sibling and losing. It's not fair to him. I will take him outside after I dose Mick with the metro and am sure he's going to keep it down.

Guess who just threw up his lunch?

Hint: It wasn't Mickey.

Whimsy laced with common sense. This guy didn't make the same mistakes that the Darwin's Award guy made a few years ago.

CAMBRIDGE, Idaho - Using his trusty BB gun to help him return to Earth, a 48-year-old gas station owner flew a lawn chair rigged with helium-filled balloons more than 200 miles across the Oregon desert Saturday, landing in a field in Idaho.

And finally:

Couch flew hang gliders and skydived before taking up lawn-chair flights. He estimated the rig cost about $6,000, mostly for helium. Costs were defrayed by corporate sponsors.

Today, Mickey has eaten three small meals totalling 1.5 cups of cooked rice with either a little minced white meat chicken or the juice from cooked chicken livers. He ate with enthusiasm, and after meal #3 came into the kitchen to see if there was any more to be had. I need to talk to the vet and see when I can increase the amounts/start adding his regular food. He's moving around a little more, rubbing his head against my legs, and in general seems to be feeling better than he did yesterday.

King has been limited to two small meals of cooked rice, the first with some diced chicken livers and the second with some livers and a half-cup of his regular dry food.

The nurse had wine with her dinner salad.

So far, fingers crossed, all food has stayed in the stomachs for which it was meant. King doesn't understand this limited food thing, but I think it's best for him, at least for today.
