ksmith: (King)
Some strange transmutation took place during the night, as I am now apparently the owner of a 125-lb cat. King seemed fairly content to lie in the hallway while I was getting ready for work. Then he got up and headed into the kitchen. Then I heard...noises.

There's no longer any mulch outside for him to eat, and the dirt-eating is limited by the fact that we haven't had much rain over the last week or so and the ground is hardening up as a result. So, in an apparent attempt to compensate, he has taken to licking the rugs, which means that lately he's been swallowing a bit of dog hair. Which is what came up this morning. Yes, my dog the cat is horking hairballs.

I am hoping this doesn't happen often, that it's simply a case of the wrong stuff sitting in his empty tum overnight and waiting for the morning to beg exit. I gave him a pepto-bismol tablet, and will be refilling his sucralfate scrip.

Everytime I think I may have this under control. Welp, one thing I know I'll be doing tonight. Vacuuming.

Came home for lunch, and spent the time vacuuming the rugs to remove dog hair instead of, well, eating. Fed the guys their lunch. Crossed fingers that when I came home later, I would find that King's tum had remained calm and that no expelled surprises awaited. Much relief in Mudville--all was OK. I then let him and the Mickster out to run around, and King managed to down a chunk of dirt to go with the wad of grass he chomped.

He kept it all down. Ate dinner. He's sleeping now.

I love my guys, but I am looking forward to getting away for a few days.

In other exciting news, my right foot has finally stopped hurting. I broke my own First Rule and wore a pair of worn-out sneakers on Saturday, and managed to strain my arch. Hurt like hell for the rest of the weekend, but a day spent wearing a pair of the good running shoes helped a lot. I don't particularly like the look of jeans with white/bright orange sneaks, but desperation won the day.

Not going up to Madison until Thursday, but I'm going to take Wednesday off to do whatever needs doing. I still don't know what to pack, or which suitcase to use. It doesn't matter as much given that I'm driving, but I'm usually a little more organized by this time.
