Woke this morning with a *spla* hangover from yesterday. Yet still I toiled. Made room on basement shelving for book spillover by dumping an entire trash container's worth of stuff. I think they're 90-gallon containers. Could be wrong. But, big, on wheels, can hold 300 pounds, and I filled it. Got rid of old shipping containers in the bargain. Plenty of shelf space for books. I'm hoping I can whittle away through the summer, and by fall have a basement that I won't be ashamed to let people see.

The office is not finished. Desk is pretty clean. Most everything is dusted, and the Murphy's Oil Soap dust cloths have left a nice scent behind. But things need to be arranged on the desk, and I need to organize cords as well as possible. USB hub rule--if you know you will never need more than 4 outlets, get an 8 outlet unit. Better yet, get a 12 if they make them.

I'm not too caught up in the NFL playoffs, but I was glad to see San Diego beat Indy. Peyton Manning makes some nice commercials, and he seems a nice guy, but when he rushed play so that San Diego got hit with a 5 yard penalty...I thought that was a pencildick move. Yeah, I know--all's fair in love, war, and the NFL playoffs. I think Manning got what he deserved.

It is gloomy. Dark. I have not messed with the MacBook today. I'll give it a rest until the weekday.

Knock wood, but no fallout from the thing I lost last weekend. It was my expired passport, the misplacing of which irritated me no end. I keep track of the thing for years, then the week I need it, I manage to accidentally trash it. That meant that I needed to go through a reapplication process instead of a simple renewal, and I needed to fill out a Lost/Stolen Passport form in addition. What really set me off was that in the process of pulling together the stuff I needed to reapply, I couldn't find my birth certificate. Tore the place apart. I figured I'd be stuck having to apply to the State of New York for a replacement when I went back to a place I already checked and found it, right where it should've been, stuck between some other papers.

So, application is in. I may be traveling for the day job this year, which is why I need it. In addition, Illinois is one of the states that is so far refusing to go along with the Real ID act, which means that after May, I wouldn't be able to use my Illinois drivers license as ID to board a plane, but would need to show a passport. So, I need a passport.

I am seriously considering taking a vacation day on Friday to collate stuff for the accountant. It's a little early to take a vacation day, and I will no doubt regret it somewhere down the road. But a two-day weekend is too short, and I want all this tax stuff wrapped up before I get into the book. I don't want March to roll around and find me needing to take a week off to pull together paperwork.

No more weekend crises, please? No blitzed computers or lost documents. No appliance breakdowns or roof leaks or sick/injured dogs or sick/injured dogmom, please please please?
