Another lunch hour during which I did not write, making 5 in a row. I still feel as though I'm getting away with something.

I did, however, make some Notes To Self concerning what I see as the major issues with the /J5/ENDGAME/I NEED a title for this book/ draft. That doesn't count.

Do you know that I now have time to think about ANY STORY I LIKE and write it down? Outline it? Noodle with it? The luxury!

I had a good weekend in the catching-up-with-chores department. I bought new baseboards for the dining room and living room, and will learn the Joys of the Miter Box next weekend. I replaced the back door knob and installed a new screen door--a slider, didn't have to hang it--and bought memory for the iBook and installed same and bought memory for the iMac because it was feeling neglected. Spread winter lawn treatment in the front yard, where the dogs don't go. Ordered the organic lawn food/weedkiller for the backyard, where the pups do run about. Bought Mickey an orthopedic bed, which I think is French for "really thick foam pad". Still haven't caught up with the checkbook balancing or stored last years records or cleaned the office. Still haven't restarted running.

I may be able to get away with handwaving for the proposal, but in order to do this dark fantasy properly, I'm going to have to research the history of Illinois from Marquette & Joliet's explorations to, I don't know, mid-1800s?

On December 20, 1836, there supposedly occurred "The Winter of the Sudden Freeze", when a fast-moving cold front moved through and froze puddles within minutes.

I will be writing about why that happened.
