Aug. 10th, 2006 06:44 pmMy Pink Flowering Althea is starting to bloom. Over a dozen buds open so far, and what looks like a hundred or so more to go. It's a hummingbird attractor, and I did see one flitting around the blooms this morning. Nice way to start the day.
The ENDGAME/J5/What is the title of this book to be?? cover conference occurred yesterday, not last week as I'd heard previously. Unfortunately, no Jean Pierre Targete 5 for 5 as he is no longer doing book covers, so the search will be on to find someone with a similar style. It will be a scenery cover, more CI than Code. Tentative design includes Jani in an overrobe, desert scenery, and knives. Diana, my editor, is thinking DUNEish. We're all for that--it would be appropriate to the book's storyline.
I think I'm going to lay off J5 for a couple of days and nail down Incident instead. I work on it during lunch, and get all psyched, and then leave it alone until the next day--I think I lose the editing edge and flow that way. I have cut about 8 pages from it so far, cut some extraneous characters, and combined two scenes. I think it's definitely moving better, but I really need to fix the first 2/3s, then nail down the climax. Then I can concentrate on J5.
I have deadlines again. Solid, this-date-circled, gotta get it donelines. That good ol' stepping off the edge thrill. Not enough hours in the day.
At least I have hummers.
