Overall, a decent day that passed too quickly.

Started with breakfast, then a bike ride. Gorgeous morning, temps in the lo 70s with low humidity and bright blue sky. I started out, and was a little surprised to see some of the intersections marked with small barriers. Rode a little farther, and came upon a guy in a hi-vis vest standing in another intersection. "Watch out for the bikers," he said as I passed.

Before I knew it, a woman on a bike passed me. Then another. Then a guy on a bike. They had numbers pinned to their shirts. IOW, I had just ridden into the midst of an ongoing bike race that was in the process of wending its way through my neighborhood. I was riding a bit more slowly than everyone else, and some little kids who were standing in their front yard watching called out "Go, lady, go faster!"

I turned off quickly. Rode a few circuits on the empty stretch of road. Battled a bit of a headwind every time I rode north or west, which...aided the workout. Saw a gorgeous hawk. Then it was off to the marina, which turned out to be a more complicated ride than usual. There's an Air and Water Show in Chicago this weekend, and I think boaters were going out on the lake to watch because the place was very busy. Despite that, it was still a nice ride. The lake looked incredible, shades of blue from aquamarine to steel, the surface dotted with white boats. 13 miles overall. Only 9.5 miles yesterday, but the weather sucked. We'd had t-storms the night before, and the sky still hung heavy. The wind felt sodden, meaning any sweat didn't evaporate. Like riding in a fishbowl. Today was much better. Today was what bikes were made for, even with the headwind.
