I think I may have finally, finally wrestled the scene I've been working on into submission. It's 6 or so pages long, maybe 7, with Jani on one side and Dathim and Feyo on the other. A battle of wills, with Jani realizing near the end that she may lose this one.
The scene deals with many things--what Feyo wants as opposed to what she says she wants, Dathim as Bad Cop goading Jani, and Jani trying to stay out of the line of fire even as she realizes that she has little if any choice but to take the hit. This angers her. It's also rather vexing when the Haarin who's just maneuvered you into doing something you Do Not want to do takes your show of temper as an indication that you're the perfect one for the job.
Reading and rereading paragraphs, losing track of who said what and who knows what at this point. Plugging in points and counterpoints like great wet wodges of spackle, then going back over and back over, smoothing, gouging, digging out and tossing aside and finally, finally hooking up the two lines of dialogue that nail the purpose of the scene and realizing that we've just about wrapped it up.
Scenes like this are a real PITA.
