Wednesday Snowday
Mar. 17th, 2004 08:24 pmThere's about an inch of very wet snow on the ground. Temps have moved above freezing, so the ground should be even muddier when it melts. But in immediate terms, the snow did clean off the dogs' feet, which was a good thing.
We may even get more snow tonight--what a drag. Oh well, just so it's moved out by Monday, and the drive to C'ville is sunny and uneventful. Speaking of uneventful, it may sound silly, but I am very relieved that they caught the Columbus sniper. When I heard that he had disappeared, I wondered if he would try to go out in a blaze of gunfire, and while my route wouldn't be taking me through Ohio, I would be close enough. That's where thinking like a writer can be a problem. You tend to take the one-in-a-million dramatic confrontation and start to think it more likely to happen then it actually is. But it's over. I'm glad no one else was hurt, and I'm very sorry for the family of the woman who was killed.
Difficult to discuss mundane work matters after that. No word about the jobs I applied for, but they're still posted so I won't hear anything until after the end of the posting period. I have a feeling I will be out of town at that time, but Spring Break being the big deal that it is, it's possible that I won't be the only person who's hard to get hold of until the first week in April. Work went a little better today, but it still had its moments.
I am really looking forward to vacation.
