Ok, so during lunch I take a run out to the mall to pick up the shirt that the Talbot's store I'd visited Saturday had reserved for me. While I'm waiting for the manager to bring it to me, I look at the handbags because I'm a handbag person.

I've been on the lookout for a black tote since a friend's DKNY version caught my eye a few weeks ago. It was a spiff bag, but being a designer item, I knew it wasn't cheap. I checked around online and almost bought a Kate Spade version. I also went to bluefly.com and checked out the Prada and Fendi versions. You sooo don't want to know. Several hundered $$ each. That's a lot for a nylon/microfiber bag, even with a certificate of authentication.

Anyway, Talbot's had their own collection of black handbags for sale. The tote was a nice size, maybe 12" x 13", with four exterior pockets and three interior, a zippered one and two open ones for cellphone and PDA. Silver hardware, with a magnetic snap closure. Leather straps with contrasting white stitching, and a subtle black on black pattern of interlocking Ts. Cheaper than any of the bags I had looked at so far.

Ok, you know where this is going. In addition to my paled green shirt, I am now the proud owner of a new black tote...and another green shirt. This one is pale sage silk, long-sleeved, a dressy addition to the C-ville wardrobe. There's a reception at the UVA President's home during one of the Book Festival evenings, and I want to look nice. I'm glad I have the bag and the shirt.

And yes, I know that no self-respecting GothGirl would be caught dead at a Talbot's. But once GGs hit 40+, they're allowed to let a little pastel into their lives. It's in the rule book.

Did some tail-end bill-paying in preparation for bugging out for a week and a half. Went online and voted my shares for my company's annual stockholders meeting. Did a little desk cleaning.

Still haven't touched taxes. *argh*
