Fiona the blind dog
Mar. 28th, 2012 09:44 pmGo ahead. Cry. You know you want to.
If the cowering doesn't get you, the happy tail will.
Here's a tissue.
It's OK. I won't tell.

I probably shouldn't have watched this 3 times before bedtime, because my dreams were full of abandoned animals living in shelters and trying to pick out just 1 to save. But it's a beautiful video and it makes me happy/sad - happy she was rescued, sad so many of our animals live in such horrible circumstances.
And really, I don't understand how so many people can empathize with a dog but not, say, a cow: life is life, life just wants to live, and we have the ability to make ethical choices like vegetarianism.

Date: 2012-03-29 02:43 pm (UTC)I do want to say that I eat meat, but it has nothing to do with my lack of empathy for cows or pigs or whatever. I LOVE cows and take every chance to snuggle, pet, and photograph them. I think the meat industry in this country (like many other things) is just plain cruelty. HOWEVER, I had my horse at a grass fed beef farm. I had to bottle feed calves (not veal calves) to work off my board. I named them all and befriended them all and knew they would grow up to be eaten. All it did was convince me to buy local, grass fed beef. The animals live happy, healthy lives, are often pampered, and meet a quick end with no fear.
Just as I'd prefer that pregnant cats have abortive spays and that stray dogs be put down rather than hit by cars, I prefer meat animals to live free and die fast than grow up packed into filthy conditions and suffering. I respect vegetarians, but I don't think eating meat makes you evil ;)There are other 'ethical' options.
