Scrivener! I just downloaded it the night before last, and started using on my NaNo novel. It takes some getting used to. As opposed to, yaknow, bits of notes and drawings on the backs of bank receipts and napkins and buried in the LAST daily journal plus the actual NaNo journal I started then forgot to take with me everywhere...*deep breath*

Anyway, I went through the YouTube tutorial for beginners but I haven't done the one that popped up as I was turning the program off the first night. Why didn't it pop up when I first turned on the program? No idea.

Anyway - are you a veteran Scrivener user? I'm going to try to learn all about it but some things I just couldn't figure out last night (and of course I can't remember what they were, now). I like that 50% off for NaNo participants at the end of the month...Any tips & advice would be gratefully accepted.

Oh, and I forgot the main reason I wanted to post a comment - er, what do you mean, "reset project stats at 11pm instead of midnight" and why is that a lamentable thing?

I am not an expert Scrivener by any stretch. I took an online class offered by Gwen Hernandez back in May, and that was very helpful. But Scrivener contains so many features that unless you use it consistently, you forget/lose track/get lost. Gwen has this tips post for Nanowrimo folks over at her blog. I don't know when she's offering her next class, but I would rec it heartily.

Scrivener has a Project Target feature under Project in the menu. It lets you track your metrics--total word count of manuscript vs word count achieved, daily targets, etc. It has the option to reset the daily tracking at midnight, and I had that checked. What I think happened is that Scrivener uses a timer, not a clock. I left the program running over the DST switch, and I think the extra hour did not get added to the program timer. So, on Sunday night, the timer reset at 11pm instead of midnight. It just meant that I lost my total word count for the day, and had to guess. Nothing catastrophic. Just an annoyance.

OK, thanks, I'll look into that! And thanks for the tips link! I am hoping to resume my fiction writing after lo! these many years, and I may as well try to learn as much as I can about this program while I've got the free trial going.
