Exciting day on the road. I saw two near-miss accidents–a near-collision during an attempted lane change and an intersection near-mishap (I’m driving east and turning left–you’re driving west and going straight. Let’s race). Saw a trooper escorting a man from his car to the back of the cruiser as the man talked on his phone–I’m guessing that was a fun call to make–and another trooper make a U-turn and stop a truck going in the opposite direction. Not sure if the trooper saw something or if a spotter radioed ahead.

Then I had to pull over to let another trooper, lights flashing, zip by.

I stuck to the speed limit.

All I had, was, in the last 45 minutes of the shift a regular drunk sleeper escorted off a trail by the PD...as soon as the PD left he jaywalked across the street, fell and cut his face, AND was blocking outbound service (otherwise, being now 25 minutes from vacation, I'd not worry about it at all other than making sure the trains didn't hit him...while I was out there dealing with that, some asshole noticed that the door to the booth wasn't completely latched and made off with my personal/work bag. When I came back (zipcar and flashlight and all) to go looking for it wherever it got dumped, it had been found, so I just had to meet the supervisor who picked it up to retrieve it. Effective total loss: one small personal camera ($150), some small electronic stuff ($30), my good take apart chopsticks in case ($40), work camera ($??). NOT taken were some edged tools (guess the thief is on probation?, $100), my expensive hairtoys (>$200), my copies of all the keys to all (really, ALL) of the work trucks at my division ($200 worth of keys alone), spare radio battery, another set of electronic bits and cables, and all the paper, clipboards, miscellany, and the bags themselves.

*sigh*

but a much less big *sigh*

plus 2 hours of my time and $9 for the zipcar.

I'm sorry you lost stuff you valued. I would have been bummed about those chopsticks.

Enjoy your vacation!
