ksmith: (gimme a break)

...in the back of your mind tells you to move the new stemless wine glass to a different part of the drain rack because it's too near the edge and you could knock it into the sink and break it, you really should listen.

::sigh::

One down, three to go.

Dropped by the hardware big box today. Bought wooden stakes--in case of Rapture, I am guessing the vamps will have a free for all--potting soil, sphagnum moss, and a tarragon plant. Texas tarragon, unfortunately. Larger leaves and a milder taste. I prefer the regular stuff, but I can't find it.

Years ago, I bought one of those fancy house number plates, which I installed by the front door. I opted for light bronze numbers/dark bronze background, which looked very sharp in the catalog but proved a little hard to read in reality. Over time, the bronze colors faded to the point that I couldn't read the numbers at all from the street. So I bought some black acrylic paint and today I colored in the background. Looks like it worked--the numbers and the leafy trim pop a little more. I won't know for sure if it worked until tomorrow, when the paint is good and dry and I reinstall the thing. But even if it needs another coat, it beats paying for a new plate or set of numbers.

I also used some of the paint to repair some worn places on my Mickey planter. It's one of those painted planters you see in big boxes, a largish flower pot set next to a figure of a dog or cat. The figure on mine is a black lab that is the spittin' image of the Mickster, hence the name. All I need to do is add a white splotch on the chest and it will be finished.

In other news, it's a Harry Potter weekend on ABC Family. Only about the 11th or 12th time I've seen the damned things. I leave them on as background, and pop into the living room to watch the favorite bits.

Rain finally stopped. Sun even came out for a little while. Amazing.
